LL8 4.2L - 1st Gen
Regrinds only, on customer provided cores. Price includes necessary machine work to make them grindable (cutting new centers). Please remove the gears before sending them in.
First Gen intake cams can be ground to Second Gen specs, but it does reduce the base circle by an extra .040", which can make them harder to shim and can cause valve guide wear if your geometry isn't corrected. We can also grind the exhaust lifts higher, as well, netting an additional .030" valve lift, but it also comes with the same .040" additional base cirlce reduction.
For customers more familiar with 2 valve pushrod engines, please be aware that 4 valve engines on average require 10-20% less duration and often much less lift to make the same horse power and turn the same RPM due to the larger runners and increased valve area. For example, a stock 2nd Gen LL8 makes the same horse power per liter as a stock LS3, and at the same RPM, but with 18% less duration and .120" less lift. So a 170 @ .050" in a stock LL8 runs like a 208 @ .050" in a stock LS3. By the same math a 192 @ .050" in an LL8 should run very similar to a 234 @ .050" in an LS based engine.
